Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico will not take part in the EU and European Political Community summits, which will be held in Denmark on October 1–2, states Slovak government office representative Alexander Kováč, according to aktuality.sk.

"Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico apologized for not attending the informal European Council summit and the European Political Community summit due to health issues related to the assassination attempt," Kováč said.

In addition to participating in the summits, Fico was also scheduled to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Copenhagen. The talks were canceled as well.

Assassination attempt on Fico

The assassination attempt on Robert Fico occurred on May 15, 2024, during an off-site government meeting. The prime minister was shot at by Juraj Cintula, who is now a defendant in the case and is scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday, October 2.

It is expected that the trial will enter its final stage tomorrow: Cintula will deliver his final statement, and the prosecutor and the victim’s representative, David Lindtner, will also present their closing arguments.

According to aktuality.sk, Fico last canceled public events on September 18, 2025, when he was expected in Žilina. At the time, the government office reported that the reason was a viral infection.

Notably, on September 30, it was reported that the United States sent anti-drone systems to Denmark to help it counter unmanned aerial vehicles.
