Details of the statement
According to the Polish foreign minister, he had read a recent interview with the Slovak leader, which he found positive.
"A few days ago, I read an interview with Prime Minister Fico. He actually sounded very positive. If he unblocks aid to Ukraine, but also turns to Russia, perhaps we can forgive him," Sikorski said during a security conference.
Expectations on aid
Sikorski also said he expects a possible lifting of aid-related vetoes for Ukraine from the new Hungarian government.
He additionally referred to a previously approved €90 billion loan for Ukraine.
Parade in Moscow
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico plans to visit Moscow on May 9 to take part in events marking the end of World War II. During the visit, he is expected to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, Moscow is preparing for May 9 celebrations under unprecedented security measures, which will bring a number of restrictions for residents. These include internet disruptions, non-functioning ATMs, and airport closures.
It has also been reported that this year’s military parade on Red Square will take place without the traditional display of tanks and armored vehicles. Instead, only marching military units participating in the war against Ukraine will appear.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia has "fought itself into a situation" where its main parade depends on Ukraine. He warned of "just responses" to the aggression and stressed that this is a signal to end the full-scale war.
