A series of loud explosions occurred in the Russian city of Voronezh during the night of January 16, reportedly linked to the operation of unidentified drones, according to Shot.

It is reported that the explosions were heard by residents in the South-Western district and Shilovo. Preliminary information suggests that a residential apartment building on Teplichnaya Street was damaged and caught fire after the arrival of an unknown projectile. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

Residents in online forums mentioned that the windows rattled due to the loud sounds. There were reports of 5 to 9 explosions in total. Bright flashes in the sky were also reported. There is currently no official information about the causes of the explosions.

Explosions in the Voronezh region, Russia

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, there have been regular reports of explosions in the Voronezh region and neighboring areas of Russia.

For instance, on January 2, explosions were reported in Petropavlivka in the Voronezh region. The blast, audible to local residents, caused damage to half of the street. Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that a Russian aircraft flying over the Voronezh region had experienced an emergency discharge of an aviation munition. At that time, the department stated that there were no casualties.

The Voronezh region of Russia shares a border with Ukraine, specifically in proximity to the Luhansk region. The village of Petropavlivka is approximately 150 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
