Serbia acquires another batch of Russian weapons despite international sanctions, AP
Serbia has received another batch of weapons from its ally Russia, despite international sanctions against Moscow due to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to AP News.
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić presented the Russian anti-drone electronic suppression system known as Repellent on Wednesday, which, as he recently stated, "is in our hands."
"This is the Repellent. It’s not as strong as Krasukha, but it’s excellent," said Vučić, referring to the Russian ground-based radio-electronic warfare system.
The material notes that the cargo arrived in Serbia several months ago, although the country's airspace is almost entirely surrounded by NATO member states, which have agreed to Western sanctions against Russia.
Serbia's position
Serbia is the only European country that refused to join the European Union's sanctions after Russia invaded Ukraine. It is also the only European country that continues to sign cooperation agreements with Moscow.
Serbia has been told that if it wants to join the EU, it must adhere to the sanctions.
Most of the recently acquired military products come from Russia. Other materials come from China, as well as from some European arms and aircraft manufacturers.
Meeting Between Zelenskyy and Vučić
Last year in August, during a visit to the Greek capital Athens, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Vučić. They discussed the situation in Ukraine and Kosovo.
Vučić, for his part, stated that Serbia respected the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Recently, Vučić announced that Ukraine would soon hold a summit with Western Balkan countries.
