Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the United States of America is Germany's closest ally outside Europe, and this should remain the case in the future, Bloomberg reports.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that the administration of US President Donald Trump will "keep the world on tenterhooks" in the coming years in areas such as energy, climate, and trade.
"Without unnecessary excitement and indignation, but also without false ingratiation or mouthing off. There is nothing wrong with looking after your own country’s interests. We all do that. It’s just that cooperation and understanding with others is usually also in our own interests," Scholz said.
He believes that in a world constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to social media, it is necessary to respond to Trump’s actions with a "cool head."
"The US is our closest ally outside Europe. And I will do everything in my power to ensure that this remains the case. Because that is in our mutual interest," he said.
Earlier, we reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not expect a sharp reduction in US aid to Ukraine if Donald Trump becomes president. This is unlikely to happen in the near future.
