Scholz's call to Putin is Pandora's box - Zelenskyy
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's call to Russian President Vladimir Putin is a Pandora's box. It may be followed by other conversations. However, there will be no Minsk-3, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"About one of today's news. Scholz told me he plans to call Putin. In my opinion, Olaf's call is Pandora's Box. Now there could be other talks, other calls. Just many words," said Zelenskyy.
He emphasized that this is exactly what Putin wants, as it is crucial for the Russian leader to ease his country's isolation and engage in talks that ultimately lead nowhere.
"This is how he has been acting for decades, allowing Russia to change nothing in its policy, doing nothing, which ultimately led to this war. We understand these challenges now. We know how to act. And we want to warn: Minsk-3 will not happen – we need real peace," Zelenskyy noted.
Scholz and Putin's talk
On November 15, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. These were the first such negotiations in two years. The call lasted about an hour.
According to the German government's press service, Scholz condemned Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine and urged Putin to end it and withdraw Russian troops.
It was also noted that Scholz had previously spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and would do it again after his conversation with Putin.
