Scholz open for new talks with Putin
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is ready for further negotiations with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin despite an unsuccessful phone call on November 15, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Olaf Scholz.
"It was frustrating because he (Putin - ed.) just repeated all his formulas," the German Chancellor said.
Nevertheless, Scholz believes the phone call to Putin was necessary to make it clear that Germany's support for Ukraine, which has been under attack, will not weaken, and that Putin must "also withdraw troops so that the basis can be created for peace development."
"And that must happen, and I will do it again. But we must not have any illusions about it," the German Chancellor noted.
Scholz-Putin negotiations
On November 15, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin by phone. These were the first such negotiations in two years.
Later, Scholz commented on the talks with Putin. The Chancellor stated that Putin had not changed his stance on the war in Ukraine. However, speaking with Putin was worthwhile.
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Scholz's conversation with Putin would not help achieve a just peace. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the view that Scholz's call to Putin is like opening Pandora's box.
