Germany will continue to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression. At the same time, it is too early to talk about sending peacekeepers, stated German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, according to Le Monde.

The German Сhancellor made several comments to journalists after participating in an urgent summit on Ukraine in Paris.

"We will continue to support Ukraine, and Ukraine can count on us," he emphasized.

Scholz also stated that he opposes imposing a peace deal on Ukraine, stressing that the country cannot be forced to "accept whatever is presented to it."

At the same time, he expressed frustration with discussions about potentially sending European peacekeepers to Ukraine, calling the topic "highly inappropriate."

"We are talking behind Ukraine’s back based on an agreement that does not exist," he added.

The German leader argued that "the time for peace has not yet come" and that Ukraine remains "at the center of a brutal war."

He also stressed that responsibility should not be divided between Europe and the United States, emphasizing that the West must act together in the interest of collective security.

Urgent summit

On February 17, French President Emmanuel Macron gathered leaders from several European countries in Paris to discuss European security issues. The reason for this summit was the policy of the new American government.

According to Western media, it was planned that one of the key topics of the meeting would be further support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.
