Scholz condemns Trump's attacks and supports Canada

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed solidarity with Canada, supporting the country in its confrontation with Donald Trump following his imposition of tariffs and comments suggesting that Canada should become a new US state, according to Bloomberg.
"Canada is not a federal state of anyone. Canada is a proud, independent nation. Canada has friends all over the world - and especially many of them here in Germany and Europe," said Scholz at the ceremony.
Trump announced a 25% tariff on imported cars and auto parts, which Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called a direct attack.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney added that this move violates the trade agreement between the US, Mexico, and Canada, known as the USMCA, which Trump negotiated during his first term in the White House as a replacement for the previous pact.
Expressing broader disagreement with US policy, Scholz criticized the tariffs that the Trump administration plans to impose on Europe, stating that any such action would lead to retaliatory measures and worsen the situation for both sides.
"I therefore say to the US: cooperation remains Europe’s goal. But if the US leaves us no choice, as with the tariffs on steel and aluminum, we as the European Union will react as one," Scholz concluded.
It was recently reported that US President Donald Trump is urging his senior advisors to take more decisive action regarding the tariff policy, which is set to be announced on April 2.
Additionally, we reported that following the car tariffs, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the US is no longer a reliable partner. He added that his country will have to quickly shift to more active trade with other nations.
