Western sanctions against Russia over its aggression toward Ukraine are having an impact. The Russian economy is already experiencing "some turbulence," despite Moscow's attempts to deny it, stated Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during a press conference in Kyiv.

"Sanctions are working. We must continue to strengthen the sanctions policy. We also observe signs of certain turbulence in the Russian economy, despite the bold claims that the Russian economy has coped. No, it has not," Sybiha said following his meeting with the Dutch Foreign Minister.

According to Sybiha, it is crucial for Ukraine, along with European and American partners, to increase the cost of aggression for Russia.

"We must turn these initial signs of economic problems into long-term trends. To make the Russian economy even more destructive, to make them pay for the aggression," he emphasized.

Sanctions against Russia

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, both the EU and the US have already imposed a number of sanctions packages. The sanctions have targeted officials, executives, enterprises, companies, institutions, and entire industries.

Recently, the United States imposed sanctions on Russia's oil industry. The largest oil refineries in Russia, as well as almost two hundred tankers from the so-called shadow fleet were subject to restrictions.

Meanwhile, the European Union is preparing the 16th sanctions package against Russia. The new sanctions list may include, among other things, imports of Russian liquefied natural gas and aluminum. The package is expected to be approved by the end of February.
