Planning a vacation during a full-scale war is a challenge for every Ukrainian. Yet, despite the difficult situation, there are regions hardly affected by shelling, and life there continues more peacefully. Here are the safest cities to visit in Ukraine in 2025.

Zakarpattia: Peace, nature, and new tourism opportunities

Zakarpattia Oblast is currently considered one of the safest regions in Ukraine. Air raid alerts are rare, there is no curfew, and the regional center, Uzhhorod, has not been hit once since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

This region enjoys a unique location near NATO and EU countries, reducing the likelihood of attacks. Also, there are no large strategic facilities that could be targeted by the enemy.

Zakarpattia is safe and attractive to tourists: mountains, thermal springs, unique cuisine, and winemaking offer ideal conditions for relaxation. The well-developed transport network makes it easy to travel between cities.

Travelling here may become an unforgettable adventure, thanks to the Synevyr National Park and the region's castles.

Traveling with children

For families with children, Zakarpattia is a true gem. Clean air, a calm environment, and numerous eco-locations offer rest and wellness opportunities.

The most popular cities are Mukachevo, Berehove, Khust, Svaliava, and Mezhyhiria, where everything needed for safe leisure is provided. Visitors can walk, visit deer farms, small zoos, or relax in thermal pools.

The infrastructure is well-suited for family travel: convenient public transport, hotels of various classes, cafés, and guided tours.

In addition, tour operators offer interesting formats such as gastronomic routes, bike rides, trips to waterfalls, and spa visits. For first-time visitors, exploring the castles of Zakarpattia is highly recommended—a mix of history, beauty, and impressions.

Which other regions are considered relatively safe

Besides Zakarpattia, western and central Ukrainian regions are worth attention. Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions have well-developed cultural and tourism infrastructure, with minimal air raid alerts.

As for central Ukraine, it is safe to travel to Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, and Poltava regions. Kyiv is also gradually recovering, although extra caution is advised in the border areas of the Kyiv region.

Travel to the border areas of Sumy, Chernihiv, and Mykolaiv regions, as well as the eastern and southern parts of the country, where active hostilities continue, should be avoided.

When planning a route, it is recommended to follow official updates and avoid regions with a high threat level. Tourism is still possible—what matters is choosing safe and verified destinations.
