Russian ground troops may have made a limited breakthrough to the eastern suburbs of Chasiv Yar, a town located about 8 km west of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, according to the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter.

According to the report, Russian troops also apparently took control of Ivanivske, a village southeast of Chasiv Yar. Fierce fighting is reportedly taking place in urban areas, with the Ukrainian Armed Forces resisting the offensive.

According to British intelligence, Russian troops are likely to remain on the eastern side of the canal that runs through the city, which is an obstacle to their advance.

At the same time, Russian troops are using infantry for the offensive, where the level of losses is high. In addition, there are reports of artillery strikes on the town using thermobaric munitions.

“Chasiv Yar is likely of value to Russia due to its strategic position on the plateau, as well as its historic use as a logistics hub for the UAF,” the British Ministry of Defense said.

The updated map from the analytical project DeepState on June 11 showed that Russian troops had captured the village of Ivanivske.

At the same time, the spokesman for the Operational and strategic grouping of troops Khortytsia, Nazar Voloshyn, said on June 11 that the village of Ivanivske was under the control of the Defense Forces and “they successfully repelled all enemy attacks.” He also said that “there is no Russian army in the town of Chasiv Yar”.
