Russian forces on the Huliaipole axis attempted to infiltrate Ukrainian defensive positions by disguising themselves as civilians, but the deception failed, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, on December 10, a group of men in civilian clothing approached the positions of Ukrainian border guards. They observed Ukrainian forces for some time and, taking advantage of bad weather, attempted to bypass the positions and move into the rear.
"However, the disguise did not help: during their movement, their radio transmitter activated, identifying them as servicemen of the Russian forces," the report states.
As a result, the sabotage group consisting of two men was eliminated. Under their civilian clothing, they were wearing Russian Armed Forces uniforms.
In recent days, a significant escalation of fighting has again been recorded near Huliaipole. Russian forces are attempting to cut off logistical routes and encircle the town.
On November 26, reports emerged that Russian forces had allegedly broken through the Ukrainian defense and advanced almost to Huliaipole.
The spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, told RBC-Ukraine that the escalation in this area occurred after Ukrainian units regrouped.
One unit conducted an uncoordinated withdrawal, leaving the flank exposed. Russian forces tried to take advantage of this and move into the rear of Ukrainian positions.
However, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation, claims that Russian troops entered the town itself are untrue. All attempts by the enemy to enter Huliaipole were repelled, and Ukrainian forces destroyed the attackers.
According to the morning report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the past 24 hours, the Defense Forces repelled 22 Russian attacks on the Huliaipole axis, in the area of the settlement of Solodke and toward Zelenyi and Huliaipole.
