Russian ground troops have almost certainly advanced in the mining town of Selydove, about 13 km southeast of the major logistics center of Pokrovsk, the UK Defense Ministry says.

“The town remains contested, with fighting likely continuing to take place within the town center,” the report says.

Selydove is the last significant urban area covering the southern flank of Pokrovsk, as well as the E50 highway that connects Selydove to Pokrovsk.

According to UK intelligence, since the beginning of October 2024, the pace of Russian ground forces' advance toward Pokrovsk has slowed significantly, and they remain approximately 7 km from the city.

Russian ground forces have recently deployed resources to the southern part of the axis, targeting Selydove and partially encircling the town.

“Russia likely aims to use the E50 highway as a secondary route of advance to Pokrovsk if Selydove is taken,” the UK Ministry of Defense notes.

Fighting for Selydove

According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff's report as of the morning of October 25, Russia focused its main efforts on the frontline in the direction of Selydove.

Ukrainian National Guard spokesperson Ruslan Muzychuk told RBC-Ukraine that Russians are trying to attack new areas in Selydove. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders are managing to drive Russian troops back from the outskirts of the town.

Vladyslav Seleznov, a military expert and former spokesperson for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said that control of the city depends on whether Ukrainian defenders can prevent Russian troops from cutting off logistics supply routes. And such supply is already difficult, as all roads are being shelled by the Russian army.
