Can Ukraine hold Selydove? Expert outlines key factors for city's defense
Russian forces continue their attempts to take control of the city of Selydove in the Donetsk region. The defense of the city depends on maintaining control over logistical routes, stated military expert and former spokesperson of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladyslav Seleznov, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, the Russian army spares no soldiers in its efforts to capture Selydove, trading their lives for every square kilometer of Ukrainian territory. The enemy is also actively using aviation and artillery to destroy buildings in the city.
Seleznov believes that control of the city depends on whether Ukrainian defenders can prevent the enemy from cutting off supply routes. These routes are vital for delivering everything necessary to the defenders, and the supply has already been complicated as all roads are under fire from Russian forces.
"There are two options: either we hold these logistical routes that we are currently using, or, in case of their loss, we will likely see Ukrainian forces fighting to break out of the encirclement in the Selydove area. That possibility exists," the expert noted.
Situation in Selydove
Today, October 24, National Guard spokesperson Ruslan Muzychuk said to RBC-Ukraine that the Russian forces are trying to attack new areas in Selydove.
However, Ukrainian defenders continue to push the enemy back from the outskirts of the city.
Just yesterday, Ukrainian forces recorded 19 enemy attacks in the Selydove area.
