Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to Russian strikes on the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions, which left people without electricity, heating, and water.

The President thanked repair teams and all services that have been working since the night to restore electricity, heating, and water in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Currently, power supply in the Zaporizhzhia region is restored and operating as scheduled.

Restoration works are ongoing in Dnipro, Kamianske, Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol, Pavlohrad, and other cities and communities across the Dnipro region. All necessary resources, equipment, and services have been mobilized for the recovery efforts.

Zelenskyy said he had instructed Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko to provide all necessary support to local authorities.

He also urged international partners to respond to Russia's strikes on energy facilities and infrastructure that leave people without electricity and heating during winter.

"It is important that our partners around the world respond to Russia's abuse of people. There is no military purpose in such strikes… This is Russia's war against our people, against life in Ukraine. This is an attempt to break Ukraine," the President stated.

Russian attacks on the Dnipro region and Zaporizhzhia

On January 7, Russian forces struck critical infrastructure facilities in the Dnipro region and Zaporizhzhia city, leaving both regions completely without electricity.

Residents were urged to stock up on water in advance, while the so-called "Points of Resilience" were established to support people and meet basic needs.

All city hospitals in Dnipro were switched to autonomous power supply via generators, and school holidays were extended by two days.

Russian forces also made one of the largest combined attacks on Kryvyi Rih city in the Dnipro region since the start of the full-scale invasion, hitting several locations.

In the Dnipro region, more than 1 million people remain without heating and water. About 800,000 consumers remain without electricity, and eight mines are without power.

Meanwhile, energy workers have fully restored electricity for residents of the Zaporizhzhia region, but citizens are asked to avoid using high-power household appliances due to the electricity shortage.
