Russia’s attack on Tuesday, May 5, caused significant damage to Naftogaz gas production facilities. This has forced Ukraine to compensate for the losses through gas imports, stated Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi.

The strikes, including those with the ballistic missiles, led to gas losses and infrastructure damage.

"Clearly, there are gas losses. We will make up for them and restore everything. We will rebuild it all and get everything done. Temporary losses in domestic production will be offset with imports, as we did last year," Koretskyi said.

Koretskyi added that since the beginning of 2026, Russia has carried out 107 large-scale attacks on Naftogaz Group facilities, mostly targeting gas production infrastructure. The latest strikes have continued for five consecutive days.

The company plans to restore supply to consumers who were left without gas due to the attacks in the near future.

On the night of May 5, Russia struck a gas production facility in the Poltava region, causing a large fire. When the rescuers arrived at the scene, Russian forces launched a second missile strike directly at them.

As a result of the attack, two rescuers and three Naftogaz employees were killed, while dozens of people were injured. Ukraine’s Interior Ministry stressed that such strikes on emergency services are a deliberate tactic by Russia and are considered a war crime.
