Russian strike on Odesa kills couple, injures others, including children

Russian forces attacked Odesa with drones overnight on June 27–28. As a result of the strike, a married couple was killed and several others were injured, according to the channels of Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov and Odesa Regional Administration Head Oleh Kiper.
"At around 03:18 AM Kyiv time, rescuers discovered the bodies of a married couple killed after a Russian drone struck their apartment," Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov wrote. "My sincere condolences to the victims’ family and loved ones."
He added that recovery efforts are ongoing and that a local administrative task force will begin operations at the site in the morning.
A few minutes later, Odesa Regional Administration Head Oleh Kiper confirmed the deaths and reported that two injured children are being treated in medical facilities.
"A 7-year-old boy is in moderate condition, and a 3-year-old child suffered smoke inhalation. Doctors are providing all necessary care," Kiper wrote.
In a follow-up message, he stated that four adults were also injured in the attack.
"Four adults are known to have been wounded. All have been hospitalized in moderate condition," he added.
State Emergency Service report
As of 03:40 AM Kyiv time, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) released initial information on the aftermath of the strike.
"Last night, Russia struck a 21-story residential building in Odesa. The impact caused a fire on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors. People were trapped inside their apartments," the statement read.
The State Emergency Service (SES) also reported that five people had been rescued from the building, including a small child. According to preliminary data, two people were confirmed dead and at least four were injured.
However, based on updated information from Oleh Kiper, the number of injured in Odesa has risen to six.
Odesa under fire
Late in the evening on June 27, local authorities urged residents of Odesa and nearby areas to take shelter. At the same time, Ukraine’s Air Force warned that groups of drones were headed toward the city.
Soon after, residents reported hearing numerous explosions, and it was confirmed that civilian infrastructure had been hit. Residential buildings and vehicles were among the damaged property.
