Energy sector under Russian attack

According to the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Russia struck at the region's energy facilities. As a result of the Russian attack, settlements in Sumy, Romny, and Okhtyrka districts were left without electricity. As a result, critical infrastructure facilities had to be switched to backup power.

"Water supply and hospitals will be provided with backup power in full. In addition, the city is deploying the stabilization points," the SRMA informs.

According to Ukrenergo, the Russians damaged a high-voltage facility. Emergency repair work began immediately after the alarm went off. The power company promises to restore electricity to consumers in stages.

"Thanks to the coordinated and professional actions of the emergency services and power engineers, power supply was restored in the affected areas and partially in the city of Sumy at night. The works are ongoing," says the Sumy Regional State Administration.

The Ministry of Energy says that more than 90 settlements in the Sumy region are left without power supply.

According to the Ministry, the Russian attack simultaneously cut off power to more than 400,000 subscribers in Sumy and other settlements of the region. Consumers in the Kharkiv region also lost power.

"As of this morning, the power supply has been partially restored. In Sumy region, 91 settlements remain without power supply," the statement says.

Water supply

Currently, there is no water supply to residential areas in Sumy: Khimmistechko and Basiv districts of the city, Kharkivska, Serhii Tabala, Kholodnoyarska Brigade, Ukrainska Narodna Respublika, Starorichenska, Myr, Bohun streets, Svobody Avenue and adjacent streets.

As of 8:30 a.m., the city's water intakes are operating normally. Except for the Prishybsk water intake, which is being restored due to problems in the power grid as a result of the attack.

In its turn, Miskvodokanal reminded Sumy residents of the urgent need to always have a sufficient supply of water for their immediate needs.

Transportation

Electroavtotrans informs that due to the state of the city's power system, only autonomous trolleybuses are operating on the line. However, experts are doing everything to improve the situation.

Russian shelling of Sumy and region

Last night, an alarm was sounded in many regions of Ukraine, during which loud explosions were heard in Sumy. As warned by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian army has once again launched kamikaze drones at Ukraine. Russia chose the northern direction, using 13 Shaheds.

"On the night of May 6, 2024, the Russian invaders attacked from the north with 13 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs (launch area - Kursk region - Russia)," wrote Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In total, according to Oleshchuk, the Ukrainian Air Defense Forces shot down 12 drones - all of them were destroyed in the Sumy region, but debris damaged the infrastructure.
