The Slavyansk oil refinery, located in the town of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, has been burning for a second day following a strike by Ukrainian forces, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

A satellite image shows a plume of smoke stretching for dozens of kilometers, completely blanketing the city.

"Local residents are reporting disruptions to electricity and water supplies, as well as panic-buying of groceries in stores. The fire spans an area of approximately 20,000 square meters," the report states.

According to local authorities, the strike on the refinery left one person dead and six others injured.

On the night of June 28, drones targeted the refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban in Russia's Krasnodar Krai. Eyewitnesses reported a series of powerful explosions near the Slavyansk refinery, after which a massive fire broke out at the facility.

At least several oil product storage tanks are confirmed to have caught fire.

Later, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the hit on the refinery. He emphasized that Ukrainian soldiers started Ukraine's Constitution Day "very accurately."

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) stressed that the strike on the Slavyansk refinery was carried out as part of the objectives set by the President within a 40-day campaign to exert pressure on Russia.

According to the SBU, the strike triggered a fire near the crude oil tank farm, the finished oil product storage area, and the primary crude distillation unit.
