On the eve of the US-Russia presidential summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, a large rally in support of Ukraine is taking place in Anchorage, according to former Voice of America correspondent Ostap Yarysh on social media X.

In particular, he posted a video showing the demonstrators.

"Ukraine and Alaska - Russian never again," the participants chant.

The rally participants also unfurled a large blue-and-yellow flag.

Alaska without dictators

The head of the public organization Stand Up Alaska, Erin Jackson-Hill, previously told Ukrinform that she and her colleagues planned to hold a rally in downtown Anchorage on August 14 under the slogan "Alaska supports Ukraine." She emphasized that they opposed inviting authoritarian leaders to the state, particularly when such invitations were not extended by the state’s governor or congressional representatives, and noted that Putin was considered a war criminal who should not be on American soil.

Meanwhile, local police have been stepping up security measures in response to the demonstrations in the city, deploying additional officers to maintain public order.

US–Russia summit in Alaska

On Friday, August 15, US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are scheduled to hold talks in Anchorage.

The meeting is expected to address a possible ceasefire and scenarios for ending the war in Ukraine.

If the talks are successful, a trilateral summit involving Trump, Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be held by the end of next week, potentially with the participation of European leaders.

If the dialogue fails, Trump may impose new sanctions on Russia.

Trump has previously said he would not rule out the possibility of a swift peace if agreements with Putin are reached, while also expressing confidence that Putin would take the Alaska talks seriously.
