On Thursday, January 15, Russia struck a critical energy infrastructure facility with a missile attack, according to a statement from Mayor Ihor Terekhov on Telegram.

"The enemy destroyed a large critical energy infrastructure facility. The emergency response headquarters is operating around the clock, with emergency services and specialized experts on site," the statement reads.

The Kharkiv mayor noted that everything possible is being done to minimize the consequences of Russian strikes and maintain control of the situation.

"We prepared for various scenarios, and now we are acting clearly and responsibly," Terekhov emphasized.

What preceded

Today, around 2:40 p.m. Kyiv time, Russian occupying forces carried out ballistic missile strikes on the outskirts of Kharkiv. Explosions were reported in several districts of the city, and a few minutes earlier, the Air Force had reported a high-speed target heading in that direction.

Attacks on Ukraine

Earlier this morning, the Russian army attacked Kyiv with drones. During the strike, drone debris fell on a 15-story residential building, destroying a wall on the building’s technical floor.

On the night of January 13, Russian forces launched nearly 300 drones and dozens of missiles of various types at Ukrainian territory. Around 2:00 a.m., Kyiv was hit by ballistic missiles, and explosions were heard across the city. Later, before dawn, the city came under missile attack again.

Other cities under enemy fire that night included Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih. Reports indicate casualties, injuries, and significant destruction. In Kharkiv, four people were killed when a strike hit the Nova Poshta (post service) terminal.

During the day on Tuesday, January 13, Russian forces attacked energy facilities in Zaporizhzhia. The attacks injured two utility workers and caused power outages affecting a large number of consumers.

Yesterday, following an emergency meeting, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that due to Russian strikes on energy facilities, a decision was made to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector.
