Russian forces mine dams in Belgorod region
Russian troops have mined dams in the Belgorod region, and are likely preparing provocations to blame Ukraine for the environmental and humanitarian consequences, stated Vitalii Sarantsev, a spokesman for the Kharkiv operational and tactical group.
According to him, the Russian forces are not only actively building defensive fortifications around Belgorod but are also actively mining hydraulic structures for general and special purposes.
"This can be seen as a 'setup' for the future. For example, if the situation changes drastically and the Russians need to blow up dams to slow down the advance of Ukrainian Defense Forces, it can also be assumed that Russia is preparing provocations on hydraulic structures to later accuse Ukraine of environmental and humanitarian consequences," Sarantsev noted.
The spokesperson added that such actions could be used to mobilize the population and distract from internal problems, and clarified that blowing up dams could lead to large-scale flooding, the inundation of settlements, and an environmental disaster.
Earlier, we reported that Russia wants to strengthen the defense of the Belgorod region in light of the failure to defend the Kursk region.
In particular, the Russian forces transfer their reserves to the Belgorod region. These soldiers could be used in future assaults.
