Russia decides to deploy additional forces to defend Belgorod region
Russia aims to strengthen the defense of the Belgorod region in response to the failure of the defense in the Kursk region. Additional forces and resources will be deployed to the area, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to the aggressor country's ministry, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov held a meeting regarding the "security of the population and infrastructure" in the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions.
The official mentioned that a plan prepared by the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces will be reviewed.
"This primarily concerns improving the efficiency of the military command system... as well as allocating additional forces and resources to fulfill key tasks," Belousov stated.
He promised to "personally oversee" the implementation of the Russian military command's plan.
Fighting in the Kursk region
Last week, Ukrainian defenders broke through the border and entered the Kursk region. In the first few days, they achieved success by taking control of several settlements.
As of today, August 15, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukrainian defenders control 82 settlements.
They have also captured a large number of Russian soldiers who were completely unprepared for such a border breach.
Against this backdrop, the authorities of the Belgorod region decided today, August 15, to implement a state of emergency in the region.
