Ukrainian forces have managed to cut off the Russian troops in the northern part of Kupiansk from the main supply lines. The enemy continues to be eliminated, said Viktor Trehubov, head of communications for the Joint Forces Operation.
"An operation is currently underway to eliminate Russian strongholds in the northern part of the town. I won’t say it’s easy, but since they are cut off from main supplies and reinforcements cannot reach them effectively, they are in a far worse position than Ukrainian defenders were even at the worst moments," Trehubov said.
He also noted that Russian supplies to Kupiansk are now only delivered by drones, which drop food and ammunition.
"Attempts to resupply by vehicles into the northern districts are effectively blocked by Ukrainian strikes. That means they cannot adequately supply the troops in the town, though some food or ammunition can still be dropped from the air," Trehubov explained.
He emphasized that urban fighting is always difficult and that risks of changing situations must be considered.
Situation in Kupiansk
Earlier, Trehubov said Russian forces are gradually losing control over Kupiansk.
He added that the number of Russian troops in northern Kupiansk has decreased due to active actions by Ukrainian defenders.
The Joint Forces Operation also warned that Russian forces had been ordered to film staged videos in Kupiansk to create the illusion of their success in the town.
