Russian forces attack Kharkiv with Molniya drone: Consequences
Russian forces today, December 26, struck Kharkiv with a Molniya (Lightning) drone during the day. As a result of the attack, a residential building was damaged, according to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov on Telegram.
"A strike on Kharkiv. A Molniya UAV was used. The impact damaged the windows of a residential apartment building and a car," the mayor wrote.
He clarified that there is no information about casualties as of now.
Russia's new drone
The use of the Molniya drone for strikes on Kharkiv became known relatively recently. The first such attack occurred on November 12.
Aviation expert Valerii Romanenko explained in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel that the Molniya strike drone is assembled from extremely basic components. The total cost of one such UAV is estimated at $300.
According to Romanenko, this type of drone cannot penetrate walls, making it a threat primarily to people who are outdoors.
This is an FPV drone. Electronic warfare stations are needed to counter it, capable of blocking the control signal within at least a 100-meter radius. Under their influence, the drone would fall to the ground.
