Expert reveals details about Russia's new Molniya drone
The new drone of the Russian army, Molniya, which recently struck Kharkiv, is primitive and inexpensive. However, it could pose a threat, stated aviation expert Valerii Romanenko in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
"This is a very simple drone. It doesn't get more primitive than this. They just launched it at Kharkiv, so to speak, anywhere it might hit. It is a tactical drone, an FPV aircraft-type drone," said Romanenko.
According to him, the drone consists of two tubes with a center wing section inside, holding two wing sections. The tail section has stabilizers, and the engine is simply taped to the nose.
The expert clarified that the most primitive Chinese electronics are used to assemble the drone.
"However, this drone is still dangerous because of its mass production and the fact that, although it’s FPV, it’s an aircraft type. This means it can bypass shallow electronic warfare zones just by inertia," the expert noted.
Romanenko added that the Molniya has a warhead weighing between 1 and 3 kilograms. Therefore, even if it hits a wall, it won’t break through. Such a drone poses a threat to people on the street or in cars.
Fighting the Molniya
The expert emphasized that to combat such enemy drones, more powerful radio-electronic warfare stations are needed, capable of blocking the control signal for at least 100 meters. In this case, the Molniya would fall.
Also, most likely, the drone is equipped with the most primitive lens, which does not allow it to work at night.
Attack on Kharkiv
It was reported on November 12 that Russian forces struck Kharkiv with a drone. Two women were injured.
Later, the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office confirmed that the enemy used their new Molniya drone for the attack.
