Russian forces struck Kharkiv with a new Molniya (lightning) drone on November 12, according to Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Telegram.

According to the investigation, on November 12 at around 01:55 PM Kyiv time, the enemy drone struck an open area in the Saltivskyi district.

Two people were injured. A 50-year-old woman was diagnosed with an acute stress reaction, while a 55-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds and burns. Additionally, windows were shattered in multiple high-rise buildings as a result of the attack.

"Preliminarily, the enemy used a new drone development for the strike, specifically the Molniya combat UAV," the prosecutor's office reported.

Under the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pretrial investigation has been launched on the grounds of violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 1, Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

What is known about the Molniya drone

The Molniya drone is an FPV aircraft-type drone, for which the Russian forces use the cheapest Chinese electronics.

The body is made of plywood, veneer, foam, and 18-mm aluminum tubes. The drone is equipped with an autopilot system from a quadcopter and lacks a GPS module, so it is manually controlled by the pilot.

According to experts, the Molniya is faster than a typical FPV drone and has a greater range. The same methods used to counter regular FPV drones are applied to fight it.
