Russian forces 20 km from Sumy: Officials weigh FPV drone threat

Russian troops are currently positioned as close as 20 kilometers from the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, creating a potential threat of FPV drone attacks. However, no such strikes have been recorded so far, said Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
According to Hryhorov, FPV drones have not yet reached the city.
"We are detecting them closer to the line of contact," the official noted.
At the same time, he said Russian forces are actively attacking Sumy with Shahed drones and recently shelled the city using a long-range multiple launch rocket system.
Russian offensive in the Sumy region
The Russian forces recently intensified their offensive in the Sumy region to create a so-called buffer zone.
According to DeepState analysts, as of June 8, the red zone is expanding on the map of the region. Its area is over 189 square kilometers.
Analysts report that Russian troops have likely captured the village of Loknia, located north of the center of the Yunakivka community.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) report notes that, according to geolocation data, Russian troops have recently advanced northeast of Kindrativka, south of Oleksiivka, east of Yablunivka, and east of Loknia.
According to the ISW, Russian military bloggers claimed that Ukrainian troops counterattacked south of Kindrativka and near Yunakivka.
On June 9, Russian troops continued their offensive in the Sumy region towards Yunakivka and Yablunivka.
At the same time, the Sumy Regional Military Administration noted that the situation on the border of the Sumy region is tense but under the control of the Defense Forces and units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, there are no grounds for evacuation from Sumy.
