On Thursday, January 1, Russian forces carried out strikes on railway infrastructure in the Sumy, Volyn, and Odesa regions, according to Vice Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba.

“2026 began for the railway with hostile attacks across the country — from Odesa region to Sumy and Volyn,” Kuleba said.

According to him, enemy strikes damaged buildings at a locomotive depot in Kovel, where about seven drone impacts were recorded.

Russian forces also hit a railway station in Konotop, damaging freight railcars.

In addition, Russian Shahed drones struck logistics infrastructure in the Odesa region. The threat of repeated attacks remains, complicating repair work.

Kuleba noted that repair crews from Ukrzaliznytsia are eliminating the consequences of the strikes. Train traffic has not been disrupted.
