On the morning of July 17, Russia attacked Mykolaiv’s port infrastructure with strike drones. 2 people were killed as a result of the Russian strike, according to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Russia struck the port area with Shahed-238 strike drones, targeting the city’s port facilities.

As a result of the Russian strike, 3 civilian vessels flying foreign flags, which were moored at the time, were damaged.

Two Ukrainian citizens were killed aboard a foreign vessel.

A criminal investigation has been opened into the attack under the article on war crimes resulting in loss of life.

Attacks on civilian shipping in the Black Sea have been ongoing for over a week.

On July 14, Russia struck three merchant ships in the Black Sea. The attack killed the captain of one of the ships flying the Tanzanian flag, and later that same day, a drone struck a ship flying the Marshall Islands flag, killing two people in that incident as well.

Meanwhile, on July 15, the government stated that Ukraine would not halt grain exports despite the Russian attacks on its ports.

Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Vysotskyi said that the government would strive to maintain export volumes at a level no lower than last year’s, even though the industry has already lost about one-third of its capacity due to the strikes on Black Sea ports.
