Russian drone attacks hit Zhytomyr region in Ukraine for 24 hours, leaving deaths and destruction

Russian forces attacked the Zhytomyr region with drones over the course of a day. The strikes damaged infrastructure facilities and civilian buildings, killing two people and sending two others to the hospital with injuries, according to Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration head Vitalii Bunechko.
Outcomes of Russia's strikes
The regional administration head noted that the Russian military had been terrorizing the region with drones since yesterday morning. Air defense forces shot down many Russian drones, but some strikes were still recorded.
The attacks damaged fuel and transport infrastructure, civilian buildings, and local residents' property.
The damaged facilities included:
- Four gas stations in the Zviahel and Korosten districts
- Three civilian vehicles
- A grocery store
- An infrastructure facility.
Two fires also broke out as a result of the strikes.
Rescuers and emergency services are working to deal with the aftermath amid the threat of further attacks.
Attacks on Zhytomyr region in Ukraine
Russian forces have repeatedly targeted Zviahel and other communities in the Zhytomyr region.
They are deliberately using strike drones to target civilian and industrial infrastructure in the region.
In particular, on September 12, Russian forces targeted a grocery store in Zviahel. Two people were killed in strikes that day, while local gas stations and an industrial facility were also targeted.
Overnight on September 12, Russia also struck the Cersanit plant in Zviahel. The Russian drone attack caused severe damage to the facility, forcing production to be halted for at least six months.
