A powerful explosion was heard in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg on the territory of the military plant Arsenal, followed by a fire at the site, according to posts on social media.
According to preliminary information, the epicenter of the fire was a hangar storing chemical reagents. The force of the detonation was so strong that the shockwave blasted through a brick wall of the building.
The Arsenal plant is an important facility within Russia’s military-industrial complex. The enterprise specializes in the production of naval artillery systems and launch complexes for Russian warships.
In addition, the plant produces components for missile technology and specialized equipment for the space industry.

On the night of June 6, Ukrainian drones attacked the Kronstadt base of Russia’s Baltic Fleet near Saint Petersburg. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the drones covered nearly 1,000 kilometers to reach the Saint Petersburg area.
Later, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) provided details of a joint operation with the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR). In addition to Kronstadt, strikes hit Russia’s 15th Naval Arsenal in the Leningrad region and the Ust-Luga oil depot in the Krasnodar region. At least three fuel storage tanks at the oil depot caught fire.
On the morning of June 3, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a large-scale attack on military targets in the Leningrad region. The Kronstadt port was also hit during the operation, which took place on the day of the opening of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
