Russian aviation activity declines after Ukrainian fighters down Su-24M bomber
Russian terrorists have reduced aviation activity after the Ukrainian military recently shot down an enemy Su-24M bomber, according to Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesperson for the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the spokesperson, the Russian bomber, flying over the western part of the Black Sea in the area of Zmiinyi Island, tried to mine the Ukrainian grain corridor.
"The situation as of now has changed after that incident. At least yesterday (December 6, ed.) we did not observe aviation activity," Pletenchuk says.
Pletenchuk expresses gratitude to the Air Force for helping to ensure the safety of civil shipping. According to him, the only problem for shipping that remains is the activity of the enemy in the air and the use of fire damage from the air.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-24M near Zmiinyi Island
On December 5, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Russian Su-24M bomber in the area of Zmiinyi Island. According to the commander of the Air Force Mykola Oleschuk, the bomber, under the cover of the Su-30SM fighter, tried to launch a missile-bomb attack on the south of Odesa region.
"Thanks to the successful operation of the Southern air command, the Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile unit sent a Russian Su-24M after the Russian warship," Oleschuk says.
In a comment to the agency, spokesperson Pletenchuk said that the bomber also had laid mines to damage the grain corridor.
