Russian attack on Kyiv kills 12 people as death toll rises

At least 12 people were killed as a result of Russia's nighttime attack on Kyiv on August 20, according to Kyiv's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
"Another injured person has died in the hospital. There are currently 12 fatalities in the capital," the mayor confirms at 8:18 a.m. Kyiv time.
7 people were killed in the Solomianskyi district.
According to the latest data, 34 residents of the capital were injured.
Klitschko says that damage to non-residential and warehouse buildings was reported in the Darnytskyi district.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a Russian attack damaged buildings on non-residential property. In addition, a fire broke out in the warehouse facilities there.
In the Solomianskyi district, debris damaged the upper floors of a 9-story residential building, after which a fire broke out there. Rescue workers have already extinguished it. Windows were also shattered in four nearby residential buildings.
At another location, debris caused a fire on the upper floors of a 4-story building.
In addition, a school and a children's hospital were damaged in the Solomianskyi district. Windows were shattered at the hospital, and cars caught fire on its grounds. The fire has been extinguished. Garages were also damaged.
Work is currently underway in Kyiv to address the aftermath of the Russian attack.
"The air raid alert is still in effect in Kyiv! Stay in safe places until the all-clear is given!" Klitschko urges.
He also announces that August 21 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv in memory of the victims of Russia's massive attack on Kyiv. The mayor also warned that all entertainment events will be banned.
On the night of August 20, Russian troops launched an attack on Kyiv with ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian Railways has rerouted trains due to the nighttime Russian attack on Kyiv.
