The details of Russia's combined air attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region on the night of April 19 have been revealed. The number of killed and injured has increased in various cities of the region.

Sources used: Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Serhii Lysak, Head of the Defense Council of Kryvyi Rih Oleksandr Vilkul, and Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian Railways.

Situation as of 2:30 p.m.

  • April 20 was declared a day of mourning in Dnipro due to Russian shelling.
  • Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 11 missiles out of 16 and 9 Shaheds out of 10. In total, 8 people were killed, including two small children, and 25 were wounded in the Russian missile attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region.
  • Dnipro - a multi-story residential building in the city center was struck. A fire broke out there. Two infrastructure facilities were damaged. Ukzaliznytsia says that Russia targeted their facilities. The city's railway station suspended operations for a while. Currently, there are 24 injured and 2 dead in Dnipro (7 injured and 1 dead among the railroad workers).
  • Kryvyi Rih - Russia hit an infrastructure facility in the city, causing a fire. 3 people were injured.
  • Synelnykove district - over 10 private houses were damaged. Fires broke out and were extinguished. 6 people were killed, including children aged 6 and 8. Another 2 people were injured.
  • Pavlograd - one of the enterprises was damaged.

Dnipro

In Dnipro, a five-story residential building was damaged as a result of a Russian air attack.

According to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, in addition to the residential building, two infrastructure facilities were also damaged in Dnipro.

"The total number of casualties in the city is 2 killed and 15 wounded," says Lysak.

Later it became known that the number of victims of the Russian missile attack on the city increased to 15 people. They are of moderate severity, according to the DRMA.

The mayor of Dnipro clarifies that Russia struck the very center of the city.

Synelnykove

There are killed and wounded in Synelnykove, Dnipro region, including children.

"One of them is severely wounded. Four private houses were partially destroyed, and another 8 were damaged," the DRMA says.

Later it became known about killed in this town.

"Synelnykove. There are 2 children among the victims. Unfortunately, one eight-year-old child died in the hospital. My condolences to the family and friends," the head of the DRMA says.

He later adds that more than 60 private houses and cars were damaged in the Synelnykove district. A solar power plant was destroyed. The enterprise was vandalized. There are seven wounded.

Pavlohrad

According to the head of the DRMA, one of the enterprises was damaged in this settlement.

Kryvyi Rih

Three people were reported injured in Kryvyi Rih.

The head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council says Russia struck an infrastructure facility in the city, and a fire broke out.

"All operational services have been sent to the scene, and the consequences are being eliminated. We know about 3 victims - a man aged 43, 53, and a woman aged 58. 2 men are in the hospital, they are of moderate severity," he says.

He adds that all services, hospitals, and social institutions are working in the city, and there is electricity.

Ukrainian air defense' work

According to Lysak, some of the Russian targets were shot down by Ukrainian Air Defense Forces.

"In particular, 9 missiles were shot down in the morning alone. And 2 more at night. Details on this will follow later. Unfortunately, there are also hits," he says.

According to Vilkul, the Russian troops attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region and Kryvyi Rih with missiles and attack drones last night.

"About 10 missiles were shot down in the sky over the region," he says.

Russia targeted Ukrainian Railways facilities

"Russia carried out a targeted massive shelling of civilian infrastructure facilities of Ukrzaliznytsia in Dnipro and the region. There are wounded among the railroad workers, and they are being provided with medical assistance. Rescuers are working at the damaged facilities, and information about the killed is being clarified," Ukrzaliznytsia says.

Currently, the work of the Dnipro railway station is suspended. Long-distance and suburban trains are not currently running to Dnipro station: the temporary final stops are Nyzhnodniprovsk and Horiainove.

In addition, the following trains are delayed in arriving in Dnipro and will disembark at Horiainove station:

  • No. 38 Kyiv - Zaporizhzhia,
  • No. 80 Lviv - Dnipro,
  • No. 120 Kyiv - Zaporizhzhia.

After disembarking passengers at Horiainove station, trains running to Zaporizhzhia will detour there.

Updated at 9:31 a.m. Dnipro railway station reopened, but there are significant train delays

Ukrzaliznytsia has reported that passengers of train No.40 Zaporizhzhia - Solotvyno, which is currently awaiting permission to enter the station, will be able to board the train at Dnipro station.

As of now, the following trains are significantly delayed:

  • No. 38 Kyiv - Zaporizhzhia;
  • No. 733 Dnipro - Kyiv;
  • No. 5/215 Chernivtsi - Zaporizhzhia (delay of up to half an hour).

Zelensky's reaction

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already responded to the Russian attack and called on partners to provide more air defense equipment. The head of state emphasized that "air defense systems should not be stored in warehouses but deployed in real cities and communities facing terror."

"Russia must be held accountable for its terror, and every missile, every Shahed must be shot down. The world can guarantee this, our partners have the necessary capabilities. This has been proven in particular in the skies of the Middle East, and it should work in the skies of Europe," Zelenskyy said.

Death of the third child has not been confirmed

According to Lysak, doctors saved a 6-year-old boy who was injured in the Russian shelling. Information about his death has not been confirmed.

But the information about the other two dead children is confirmed, he adds.

A railway worker was killed as a result of Russian shelling of the railway infrastructure. Another 7 employees were injured, Ukrzaliznytsia informed.

Mourning day in Dnipro

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov has declared April 20 a day of mourning due to the Russian shelling of the city.

"To honor the memory of the victims of the tragedy that occurred on April 19 as a result of the Russian Federation's rocket attack on the city of Dnipro and the region, I declare April 20 a day of mourning in the city of Dnipro," the document says.

Number of victims in Dnipro increased dramatically

According to Lysak, the number of victims in Dnipro has increased to 24 people. Emergency search operations continue in the most damaged building.

"According to the updated data, 5 more high-rise buildings and 2 private houses, 3 educational institutions, 7 administrative and office buildings, a market, shops and trade pavilions, a hotel, and a service station were damaged. And almost fifty cars. The city's infrastructure was also destroyed," says the head of the DRMA.

Russian night drone and missile strike on Ukraine on April 19

Last night, Russian troops launched a combined air strike against Ukraine using missiles and kamikaze drones. At first, the Russians launched several groups of Shaheds, and later - missiles. A large-scale air alert was declared in Ukraine.

A series of explosions occurred in Dnipro at night due to a Russian missile attack and air defense systems in the region were reported to be operating. In addition, explosions were reported in the Odesa area.
