Russia launched a drone strike near a checkpoint close to Ukraine's Chernihiv city on March 15. The assault left one dead and several military personnel and a police officer injured, according to Chernihiv Military Administration head Dmytro Bryzhynskyi.

Chernihiv military chief reports that the hostile attack occurred in the village of Novoselivka in Chernihiv district.

"As a result of the strike, there is one fatality and injuries among servicemen, and a police officer was also affected. Unexploded ordnance dropped from the drone is detonating on site, and emergency services are working there," he wrote.

In a separate comment to Suspilne (Ukraine's National Public Broadcasting Company), Bryzhynskyi clarified that five servicemen were injured in the attack and are currently receiving treatment in Chernihiv medical facilities. The police officer suffered acubarotrauma (concussion).

Other attacks launched by Russia

Earlier, on September 4, 2025, Russian troops carried out a missile strike on a checkpoint near Chernihiv. The attack targeted a checkpoint at the entrance to the settlement of Novoselivka.

Later reports indicated that the enemy also struck personnel from a humanitarian demining mission who were clearing the area of mines and other explosive devices. Two people were killed, and three were injured in that attack.

In addition, on October 7, 2025, Russia launched a drone strike on a public transport stop in Ukraine's Kherson city. The attack resulted in one person being killed and another being injured.
