Russian forces shelled vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross humanitarian mission. Three Ukrainian staff members of the ICRC were killed, according to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

"Today, the occupier struck vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross humanitarian mission in the Donetsk region," the President reported.

At the same time, Lubinets noted that the attack is already known, but the ICRC, like the IFRC, remains silent.

"No reaction, no condemnation, no expression of sympathy! This silence only shields Russia's criminal policy! The ICRC must officially and publicly acknowledge Russia's violations of the Geneva Conventions!" he emphasized.

Zelenskyy also added that, as of now, two people are known to be injured, and three were killed.

"In this war, everything is absolutely clear: Russia brings evil, Ukraine defends life. And if anyone wants to 'hear both sides,' Russia interprets it only as permission to continue killing. The world must respond firmly and decisively. Both countries and international organizations cannot remain indifferent," the President stressed.

Prosecutor's statement

According to law enforcement, an investigation has been launched into the deaths of three and injuries to two staff members.

They reported that on September 12, the Russian army committed another war crime in the Donetsk region.

"The aggressor state's forces, likely using artillery, struck the vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the village of Viroliubivka, part of the Kostiantynivka territorial community," the prosecutor's office stated.

Officials said the ICRC staff had arrived in the village to distribute fuel briquettes to local residents to heat their homes. At the time of the shelling, they were unloading the delivered aid.

"As a result of the attack, men aged 40, 41, and 48 were killed at the scene. Two of their colleagues, aged 35 and 41, sustained shrapnel injuries and blast trauma. They were taken to a medical facility, with one of the injured currently in serious condition," the prosecutors noted.

Red Cross inaction

Lubinets recently addressed the organization and criticized it for its "ostrich" position.

According to the Ombudsman, the Red Cross has been unable to ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Additionally, last fall, Lubinets harshly criticized the Red Cross Federation for protecting Russia's interests.
