Red Cross continues to hide head in sand - Ukrainian ombudsman
The Red Cross still continues to hide the head in the sand. The staff cannot even ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war, states Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
“More and more often, Russian soldiers kill Ukrainian soldiers who surrender. This is recorded by both law enforcement agencies and international organizations,” Lubinets said.
However, he noted that all public executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war, which are war crimes, require an effective response from the international community, including new arrest warrants for criminals from the ICC.
“The ICRC continues to hide the head in the sand - the organization cannot ensure the protection of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war,” he emphasized.
Russia violates the rules of war
There have been repeated cases of Russians violating the rules of war. These include violations of the rights, acts of violence against civilians, and outright brutal killings of Ukrainian soldiers who have been captured.
Recently, Russians shot three Ukrainian prisoners near Toretsk.
Before that, a similar incident occurred in early July. At that time, Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin reported that the Russians had shot Ukrainian soldiers who had laid down their arms near Robotyne.
