Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 20

Ukrainian troops are advancing in the Melitopol direction. In the Avdiivka direction, nearly 900 occupiers were killed and wounded. Additionally, over 30 enemy attacks in the Kupiansk direction have been successfully repelled, according to information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russia's shelling
Over the past day, the occupiers cynically launched another missile strike with an Iskander-M ballistic missile on a civilian target in the city of Mykolaiv. In addition, the invaders employed strike UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type in southern Ukraine, most of which were destroyed by air defense systems.
During the past day, there were 90 combat clashes. In total, the enemy delivered 12 missile and 60 aerial strikes, conducted 53 shelling attacks using multiple launch rocket systems on our troops' positions and populated areas. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Multi-story and private residential buildings, as well as other civilian infrastructure, have suffered destruction and damage.
Aerial strikes targeted:
Petropavlivka, Podoly, and Pisky in the Kharkiv region.
Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.
Spirne, Viyimka, Vesele, Klishchiivka, Kurdiiumivka, New York, Avdiivka, Berdychiv, Oleksandrivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, and Pavlivka in the Donetsk region.
Robotyne and Novodanylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Berislav and Vesele in the Kherson region.
Around 150 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions came under artillery fire.
The frontline situation
The operational situation remains largely unchanged in the Volyn and Polissya directions.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains its military presence in border areas and conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the movement of our troops to critical areas. They are also increasing the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled over 30 enemy attacks in the areas of the populated settlements of Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, and 12 attacks near Nadiya in the Luhansk region.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces successfully defended their positions in the area of Makiivka, Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy's attempts to regain lost ground in the area of Klishchiivka, Donetsk region, were unsuccessful. Ukrainian Defense Forces, on the other hand, continue their offensive actions south of Bakhmut, Donetsk region. They inflict casualties on the enemy in personnel and equipment and consolidate their positions along the achieved frontlines.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy has resumed offensive actions and continues its attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Ukrainian forces are holding their defense steadfastly, inflicting numerous casualties on the enemy. In the past day, the enemy's losses amounted to nearly 900 occupants killed and wounded, with nearly 50 tanks and over 100 armored vehicles of the enemy destroyed or damaged. The enemy's offensive actions in the areas of Novokalynove, Stepove, and Severne in the Donetsk region were also unsuccessful.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful storming actions supported by aviation in the vicinity of Mariinka, Donetsk region. Ukrainian defense forces repelled 16 enemy attacks in this area.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Zolota Niva and Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, our defenders prevented any losses of positions in the area of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces engage in counter-battery warfare, delivering fire strikes on the enemy's rear areas.
Offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, inflicting losses on the occupying forces in terms of personnel and equipment, and wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
Over the past day, the defense aviation conducted strikes on a command post, delivering 13 strikes on areas of personnel concentration, equipment, and military vehicles, and 4 more strikes on the enemy's anti-aircraft missile complexes. Additionally, our defenders destroyed 4 operational-tactical level reconnaissance UAVs.
The missile troops units targeted a command post, 2 areas of personnel concentration, equipment, and military vehicles, 2 heavy flamethrower systems of salvo fire TOS-1A Solntsepek, and 13 artillery pieces of the enemy.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 290,680 military personnel.
