Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 8

Ukrainian Military Forces continue their offensive operation in the direction of Melitopol and repel enemy attacks in the east, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the day, there were 33 military clashes on the frontlines. The Russians carried out six airstrikes and conducted 20 rocket attacks on Ukrainian positions and civilian areas.
Regrettably, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population as a result of enemy terrorist attacks.
Frontline situation
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, there have been no significant changes. No signs of the formation of offensive groups have been detected. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces continue to perform tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the occupiers maintain a military presence in border areas, continue shelling populated areas from Russian territory, and increase the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
The invaders conducted an airstrike in the area near the town of Hrabovske in the Sumy region. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Senkivka in the Chernihiv region, Kozacha Lopan, Vovchansk, Okhrimivka in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled three enemy attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. More than 15 populated areas, including Kamianka, Dvorichana, Synkivka, Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Luhansk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled four attacks by the Russians in the area near Makiivka in the Luhansk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled all enemy attacks north of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka during the day. More than 15 populated areas, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Pivnichne in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled all attacks by the occupiers in the area near Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Keramik, Avdiivka, Opytne, Severne in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 13 attacks by the invaders in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region during the day. The Russians conducted an aviation strike in the area near Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region. Around 10 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, approximately 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Russians conducted aviation strikes in the areas near the populated areas of Novodanylivka, Robotyne, and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region. Around 25 populated areas, including Poltavka, Huliaypole, Orikhiv, Robotyne, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Mali Shcherbaky in the Zaporizhzhia region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kherson direction, the occupiers conducted an aviation strike near Berislav. The cities of Kherson and Stanislav in the Kherson region experienced enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction and offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction. They also inflict losses on the occupation forces in personnel and equipment, exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Defense Forces' aviation conducted three strikes on areas of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentration.
Missile troops units struck three artillery pieces and two ammunition depots of the Russians.
Earlier, British intelligence stated that the situation in the area of the village of Velyka Novosilka in the south of the Donetsk region had stabilized. The Russians are in a defensive position on this front.
