Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of September 16

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have achieved success in the Klyshchiivka area of the Donetsk region. Ukrainian troops repelled 10 attacks by Russian forces near this settlement, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian's attacks
The enemy launched eight missile strikes and more than 50 aviation attacks, conducting 22 barrages of rocket artillery fire on Ukrainian military positions and civilian settlements.
Additionally, the peaceful population of Kharkiv suffered from cynical missile strikes. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among civilians due to Russian terrorist attacks.
Over 15 private residential buildings were damaged or destroyed, along with a lyceum and other civilian infrastructure.
The frontline situation today
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains complex. Over the past day, there have been 30 armed clashes.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable, with no significant changes noted. There are no signs of offensive troop formations detected. Belarusian armed forces units have been identified as performing tasks in border areas adjacent to Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains a military presence in border areas and continues shelling populated areas from Russian territory. They have carried out aerial strikes near Stepok in the Sumy region and in the vicinity of Mali Vovchi and Pletenivka in the Kharkiv region.
More than 20 populated areas have been subjected to artillery and mortar shelling, including Galaganivka in the Chernihiv region, Rudak, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk, Sadky, Riasne in the Sumy region, and Strilecha, Hatysche, and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the adversary conducted aerial strikes near Synkivka and Kopanky in the Kharkiv region. They shelled populated areas, including Fiholivka, Lyman Pershyi, Petropavlivka, Zapadne, and Kyndrashivka in the Kharkiv region, with artillery and mortars.
In the Lyman direction, the adversary did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. Areas near the populated areas of Novoehorivka, Nevske in the Luhansk region, and Serebrianka and Spirne in the Donetsk region were hit by aerial strikes.
More than 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Dronivka, Siversk, Verkhniokamianske in the Donetsk region, were affected by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian forces successfully repelled more than 10 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. The adversary attempted to regain lost positions in the areas of Kurdiumiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. An aerial strike was conducted near Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.
Over 20 populated areas came under artillery and mortar fire, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Kurdiumiivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the area of Severne in the Donetsk region. Avdiivka and Severne in the Donetsk region were subjected to aerial strikes.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Oleksandrivka, Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Nevelske, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled more than 10 enemy attacks in the Maryinka area. The adversary carried out an aerial strike near Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region.
Under the artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers, approximately 10 populated areas were affected, including Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Kostiantynivka, and Yelyzavetivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the populated area of Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region suffered enemy aerial strikes. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenske, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were impacted by artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted aerial strikes in the vicinity of the populated areas of Svitla Dolyna, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 20 populated areas, including Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, Pavlivka, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson region, the enemy carried out aerial strikes in the areas of populated areas of Berislav and Lvove in the Kherson region. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Antonivka and Kherson in the Kherson region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, conducting offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction. They are successfully eliminating the enemy and step by step liberating the occupied territories.
As a result of these offensive (assault) actions, Ukrainian troops have achieved success in the Klischiivka area of the Donetsk region.
Emergency events
In some settlements in the Berdiansk district of the Kherson region, Russian occupying forces are being quartered in private houses belonging to local residents. At the same time, there is a practice of vacating private houses after filtration measures and forcibly resettling multiple families from the local population into one house.
Russian's losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out two strikes on command posts, twelve on areas with the concentration of personnel, equipment, and military vehicles, and five on the enemy's air defense missile systems.
Missile troops units inflicted damage to three Buk-M1 air defense missile systems and five enemy artillery systems.
