European Union representatives conveyed the bloc's position to the United States during last week's peace talks on Ukraine in Miami, emphasizing its unwavering support for the Ukrainian people, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said during a briefing.
"First of all, on conveying our position, our very clear position on Ukraine to the US. This has been done as recently as Friday at these talks in Miami, also with the US counterparts, where we have been represented and where we have been at the table and where our position of full support, of unwavering support to Ukraine, has been reiterated," Pinho noted.
According to her, the talks aimed to advance efforts toward lasting and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
However, the European Commission spokesperson declined to disclose further details of the discussions between US, EU, and Ukrainian representatives. The parties were seeking to make progress toward a peaceful settlement.
But she added that the Commission participated in the talks and sees that as a positive step toward ending the war in Ukraine.
Ukraine-US-EU talks
As previously reported, new talks on ending Russia's war against Ukraine took place in Miami late last week. The US delegation included presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Ukraine was represented by Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov, Foreign Intelligence Service chief Rustem Umerov, Presidential Office deputy head Sergiy Kyslytsya, and David Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction.
According to media reports, the talks in Miami ended ahead of schedule because the United States decided to strike a diesel deal with Russia and suspend some sanctions against it.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also emphasized that the Ukrainian delegation in the United States was used as a smokescreen for such agreements.
