Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 1

Over the past day, December 31, 131 combat engagements took place on the front lines. Russian forces attacked from almost all directions, with the highest number on the Pokrovsk direction, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy carried out 77 air strikes, dropping 182 guided aerial bombs. In addition, it conducted 3,587 attacks, including 84 using multiple launch rocket systems, and used 6,406 kamikaze drones to strike targets.
The aggressor carried out air strikes, in particular on areas of the settlements of Verkhniа Tersa, Liubytske, and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region; Andriivka-Klevtsove in the Donetsk region; Mykhailivka in the Kherson region; and Zatoka in the Odesa region.
Over the past day, aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck two areas of enemy personnel concentration and one UAV control point.
Situation on the directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, over the past day, the enemy carried out one air strike, using three guided aerial bombs, conducted 84 attacks, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy attempted six times to break through the Ukrainian defenders' defensive lines near the settlements of Vovchansk and toward Obukhivka and Dovhenke.
In the Kupiansk direction, seven enemy attacks took place yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults toward Novoplatonivka, Bohuslavka, Kurylivka, Shyikivka, and Hlushkivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out 11 attacks. It attempted to penetrate Ukrainian defenses near the settlements of Novoselivka, Yampil, Zarichne, and toward the settlements of Stavky and Drobysheve.
In the Sloviansk direction, over the past day, the Ukrainian defenders stopped an attempt by the occupiers to advance in the area of Serebrianka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, no enemy offensive actions were recorded.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 16 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Yablunivka, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Torske, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka and Ivanopillia.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 33 assault actions by the aggressor in the areas of the settlements of Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Kotlyne, Molodetske, Filiia, Hryshyne, and toward the settlements of Novopavlivka, Kucheriv Yar, Bilytske, Novopidhordodne, Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, and Serhiivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, over the past day, the enemy carried out 15 attacks near the settlements of Zlahoda, Rybne, Zelenyi Hai, and toward the settlements of Andriivka-Klevtsove and Pryvillia.
In the Huliaipole direction, 15 attacks by Russian forces occurred in the areas of Huliaipole, Solodke, and Bilohiria.
In the Orikhiv direction, no combat engagements were recorded over the past day.
In the Prydniprovske direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of the formation of enemy offensive groupings were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,208,970 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, Russian forces lost 1,060 personnel.
Ukrainian soldiers also neutralized seven tanks, four armored combat vehicles, 36 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, 769 uncrewed aerial vehicles, and 171 units of enemy automotive equipment.
