Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 22

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs that 144 combat clashes occurred on the front on May 21. Most battles were recorded in the Pokrovsk direction.
"Over the past day, rocket and artillery forces of the Defense Forces struck 12 areas where enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated, three command posts, one air defense asset, five rocket and artillery systems, and two other important targets of the Russian invaders," the General Staff wrote.
Situation by direction
Kharkiv direction: The enemy made six unsuccessful attempts to advance in the areas of Vovchansk, Kamianka, and Mala Shapkivka villages.
Kupiansk direction: Four enemy attacks occurred yesterday near Kindrashivka, Zahryzove, and Nova Kruhliakivka settlements.
Lyman direction: There were 17 clashes near the settlements of Ridkodub, Hrekivka, Zelena Dolyna, and toward Novoserhiivka, Olhivka, Novyi Myr, and in the Serebryanskyi Forest.
Siversk direction: The Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks near Bilohorivka.
Kramatorsk direction: The enemy launched three attacks near Chasiv Yar and toward Predtechyne.
Toretsk direction: The enemy attacked 16 times in the areas of Dyliivka, Druzhba, and Toretsk.
Pokrovsk direction: The Defense Forces repelled 54 assault actions of the aggressor in areas near Yablunivka, Zoria, Shevchenko Pershe, and others.
Novopavlivka direction: 19 attacks were repelled near Bahatyr, Odradne, Shevchenko, Vesele, Rivnopil, Novopil, Zelene Pole, and Vilne Pole settlements.
Huliaipole direction: The occupiers tried three times to advance near Vysoke.
Orikhiv direction: The Defense Forces repelled four attacks in the areas of Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Pavlivka.
Prydniprovskyi direction: Enemy units attempted to advance once.
Kursk direction: Ukrainian forces repelled five enemy attacks
Russia’s losses in the war
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost nearly 977,000 troops. Just in the past day, the enemy lost 870 personnel.
The Defense Forces also destroyed:
- 4 tanks;
- 5 armored fighting vehicles;
- 32 artillery systems, among other equipment.
