Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 22

As of 10:00 PM on March 22 (Kyiv time), 118 combat engagements have occurred on the frontlines since the beginning of the day. Over a third of these clashes were recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Throughout the day, Russian forces launched 63 airstrikes, dropping 78 guided bombs. Additionally, they deployed 1,047 kamikaze drones and carried out 5,097 shellings of populated areas and Ukrainian military positions.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attempted three times to break through the defensive positions of Ukrainian troops near the settlement of Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled three attacks near Zahryzove and towards Petropavlivka. Another combat engagement is ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, 17 enemy attacks were stopped by Ukrainian forces in the settlements of Nadiia, Dibrova, Kolodyazi, and Torske, as well as the directions of Novyi and Novomykhailivka. Four more combat encounters are ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy carried out three offensive actions in Bilohorivka and Spirne, with one ongoing battle.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders are repelling an enemy attempt to advance west of Andriivka. The battle is ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces stormed Ukrainian positions 18 times today near Krymske, Diliivka, Toretsk, and towards Shcherbynivka. Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled 16 of these assaults, with two combat encounters still underway.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy has been intensively attacking Ukrainian defenders. Russians launched 43 offensive actions. The most significant activity has been observed in the areas of the settlements of Panteleimonivka, Kalynove, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Novoukrainka, Zelene Pole, Lysivka, Udachne, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Kotliarivka, Andriivka, Novoandriivka, and in the direction of Pokrovsk. Four combat encounters are still ongoing. The enemy also carried out airstrikes on Pokrovsk, Serhiivka, and Yelyzavetivka.
"According to preliminary estimates, today, in this direction, Ukrainian forces eliminated 105 Russians and injured 80 more. Five vehicles, three motorcycles, nine UAV control points, two artillery guns, one BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher, one howitzer, and nine satellite communication terminals were destroyed. Additionally, a vehicle, a motorcycle, and two artillery guns of the Russian forces were significantly damaged," the General Staff reported.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian units repelled 14 Russian attacks in the directions of Kostiantynopil and Rozlyv. Four combat encounters are ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy did not carry out any active offensive actions. However, Russians conducted airstrikes using NARs in the settlements of Novodarivka, Malynivka, and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy carried out one unsuccessful offensive action towards Shcherbaky and Novodanylivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy launched an airstrike using NARs in Olhivka but did not conduct any offensive operations.
In Russia's Kursk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three Russian attacks. A total of 22 combat encounters have been recorded so far. The enemy carried out 14 airstrikes, dropping 20 guided bombs on populated areas and defense positions. Additionally, they fired 275 artillery shells, including nine from multiple launch rocket systems.
In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the situation.
Frontline update from the previous day
On Friday, March 21, a total of 140 combat engagements were recorded on the frontlines. As of today, most attacks were observed in the Pokrovsk direction.
