Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 16
Ukrainian forces have been holding off Russian pressure in the Kursk region for the third day. The occupiers have launched around 19 attacks, using aviation, artillery, and kamikaze drones, according to the General Staff's update.
Over the past 24 hours, 148 combat clashes have been recorded. The enemy carried out 98 airstrikes, dropping 161 guided bombs.
Additionally, the occupiers conducted nearly six thousand shelling attacks, including 188 from multiple launch rocket systems and 2,735 drone strikes.
Battlefronts:
Kharkiv direction: The enemy launched eight assaults on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk and in the direction of Petrivka.
Kupiansk direction: Four enemy attacks were repelled near Zahryzove, Lozova, and Kopanky.
Lyman direction: The occupiers carried out 16 attacks in the areas of Balka Zhuravka, Ivanivka, Nadia, Yampolivka, and Hryhorivka.
Siversk direction: Two enemy assaults were repelled near Verkhniokamianske and Ivano-Darivka.
Kramatorsk direction: The occupiers launched one attack in the area of Orikhovo-Vasylivka.
Toretsk direction: The enemy conducted 17 attacks near Toretsk and Druzhba.
Pokrovsk direction: 36 Russian attacks were repelled in the areas of Sukha Balka, Oleksandropil, Novotoretske, Yelyzavetivka, Svyrydonivka, Promin, Kotlyne, Uspenivka, Nadiivka, and Andriivka.
Novopavlivka direction: 14 enemy attacks were repelled near Kostiantynopol and Rozlyv.
Huliaipole direction: Four enemy attacks occurred near Novopole and Novosilka.
Orikhiv direction: 15 enemy attacks were repelled near Stepove, Piatykhatky, Shcherbaky, Zherebianky, and Kamianske.
Prydniprovskyi direction: Four enemy attacks yielded no results.
Kursk region: 19 combat engagements took place. The enemy launched 34 airstrikes, dropping 63 guided bombs, and carried out 243 artillery attacks, including five from multiple rocket launchers (MRLS).
Volyn and Polissya directions: No signs of offensive group formations were detected.
Enemy losses
On March 15-16, Ukraine's defense forces struck 17 areas where Russian personnel, equipment, and weaponry were concentrated, as well as a command point, an air defense system, and an artillery unit.
Russian losses for the day amounted to 1,400 soldiers, and Ukraine's forces also destroyed 78 artillery systems, 180 operational-tactical UAVs, and 113 vehicles.
