Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 8

Russian forces continue their massive attacks along the entire frontline. Ukrainian defenders are holding their ground and repelling enemy assaults, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military updated operational information regarding the Russian activity as of 4:00 PM today, March 8 (Kyiv time).
"Russian forces continue to assault the positions of Ukrainian defenders. A total of 101 combat clashes have occurred since the beginning of the day," the General Staff reported.
Cynical shelling from Russian territory continues to affect border settlements, including Novodmytrivka, Ulanove, Kucherivka, Sorokyne, Nova Sloboda, Studenok, Popivka, Khodyne, Bachivsk, Lisne in Sumy region; Timanovichi, Khotivka, Huta-Studenetska, Yeline in Chernihiv region.
Today, Ukrainian forces repelled three attacks near Vovchansk and Petro-Ivanivka in the Kharkiv direction. Two clashes are still ongoing. The enemy carried out airstrikes, including in the settlement of Dovzhyk.
Frontline situation
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched seven assault actions near Stepova Novoselivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove. Two clashes are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked 14 times near Novomykhailivka, Novyi, Myrnyi, and Zelena Dolyna. Eight clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attempts by Russians to advance near Chasiv Yar and Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked 15 times near Druzhba and Toretsk.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have made 14 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of the settlements of Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Andriivka, Oleksandropil, Pokrovsk, Serhiivka, Novooleksandrivka, Bohdanivka, Zelenyi Kut, and Ulakly.
The defense forces are holding off the enemy’s pressure and have repelled 12 attacks. Two clashes are still ongoing. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the settlement of Leontovychi.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attacked five times near Kostiantynopil and Burlatske. Two clashes are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy carried out two attacks on Storozhove and Charivne. Additionally, the enemy carried out airstrikes on Huliaipole, Voskresenka, Novopil, and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four enemy assaults in the directions of the Pyatykhatky, Stepove, and Shcherbaky settlements.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy carried out an airstrike on the settlement of Kozatske and two missile strikes, likely with Iskander-M missiles, on the areas of the settlements of Novoselivka and Bila Krynytsia.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders repelled 12 Russian attacks. Fourteen clashes are still ongoing. Since the beginning of the day, the enemy has carried out 23 airstrikes, dropping a total of 33 guided bombs on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements. They have also conducted 362 artillery shellings, including 30 from multiple rocket launchers.
There have been no significant changes on other frontlines.
Enemy's losses
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has already lost more than 880,000 soldiers. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces have eliminated another 1,000 Russian forces.
As previously reported by the Ministry of Defense, last year was a record year for Russia in terms of both personnel and equipment losses. Over the year, Russia's losses exceeded 400,000 military personnel.
Last month, the Russian army lost over 36,000 people. This is equivalent to the size of three motorized rifle divisions.
