Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 8

Over the past day, 176 combat engagements were registered along the frontline. The Russians launched 45 air strikes on the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia dropped 93 guided aerial bombs and used 2021 kamikaze drones to destroy them. Russia also carried out about 5,000 artillery attacks, including 139 from multiple launch rocket systems.
Russia carried out air strikes, in particular in the areas of Serebrianka, Verkhnekamianske, Dyliivka, Toretsk, Katerynivka, Petrivka, Pokrovsk, Stepove, Kostiantynopil, Rozlyv, Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk region.
Sectors
In the Kharkiv sector, Russia tried to advance four times in the area of Vovchansk and Tykhyne in vain.
Russia attacked 3 times in the Kupiansk sector over the last day. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russia's assault near Topoli, Holubivka and Petropavlivka.
Russians attacked 14 times in the Lyman sector. They tried to advance near Novoserhiivka, Nadiia, Pershotravneve, Cherneshchyna, Makiivka, Zarichne, Terny, and Ivanivka.
In the Siversk sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 7 Russian attacks in the vicinity of Bilohorivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, Russia conducted 7 attacks on Ukrainian troops' positions near Vasiukivka, Bondarne, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, and Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk sector, Russia attacked Toretsk 9 times yesterday, in some cases with the support of aviation.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian troops stopped 41 Russian attacks in the areas of Tarasivka, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Kotlynne, Novovasylivka and Nadiivka.
Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 25 Russian attacks in the Kurakhove sector near Sribne, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Andriivka, Kurakhove, and Dachne over the past day.
In the Vremivka sector, Russian troops conducted 21 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Yantarne, Kostiantynopolske, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopil, Novosilka, and Pryvilne. In addition, Russians actively used attack and bombing aircraft against settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.
In the Prydniprovskyi sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled 2 Russian attacks.
Russians did not conduct any active operations in the Orikhiv and Huliaipole sectors yesterday.
In the Volyn and Polissia sectors, no signs of Russian offensive groups were detected.
The operation in the Kursk region continues, 32 combat engagements took place yesterday, and Russian artillery fired 146 times at settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops, including 6 times from multiple rocket launchers.
Russian losses
Our soldiers inflict significant losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces and actively undermine the enemy's offensive potential in the rear.
Over the past day, the missile troops and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit eight areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment and the control center of the Russian drones.
In total, the losses of the Russian invaders amounted to 1,660 people over the past day. Ukrainian troops also neutralized 4 tanks, 16 armored combat vehicles, 19 artillery systems, 19 tactical drones, and 81 vehicles.
