Over the last day, from January 7 to January 8, the Russian military lost 1,660 soldiers, 16 armored combat vehicles, and 19 drones at the front, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to January 8, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 801,670 (+1,660) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 9,714 (+4);
  • armored personnel vehicle - 20,205 (+16);
  • artillery systems - 21,729 (+19);
  • MLRS - 1,260;
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,038;
  • aircraft - 369;
  • helicopters - 331;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 21,727 (+19);
  • cruise missiles - 3,014;
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 33,307 (+81);
  • special equipment - 3,681.

Situation at front and Russian shelling

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Ukrainian Defense Forces have advanced in the Kursk region. Still, Russians are exerting pressure in 4 directions in eastern Ukraine.

At night, Russians attacked Ukraine on a large scale with Shahed kamikaze drones.

In the Kyiv region, Ukrainian Air Defense Forces downed Russian drones.
